What Are Google's Featured Snippets & How Do They Work?

We all use Google. So I'm sure you've stumbled across some of Google's featured snippets while browsing the web.

Featured Snippets "provides a quick answer or summary with a content snippet from a relevant website. These featured snippets are most likely to show up when your search is in the form of a question."

Here's an example of a featured snippet:

Your next question is probably something along the lines of; so how do I get my website to show in the featured snippets section? While there is no easy guaranteed way to get featured, there are things you can do to improve your chances of a place in the lucrative top of the page featured snippet section.

There's no markup needed by webmasters to enable a featured snippet. This means there is nothing additional you can add to your page to ensure your website comes up in the featured snippet.

What you can do, however, is write your content clearly and concisely, ensuring your content is easily readable by both search engine users and Google.

When writing blog content, be sure to add a summary at the start or end of your content, which summaries the answer to your blogs key question.

Although there is no schema markup to highlight featured snippet information to Google, ensuring your content is written in the correct format with any relevant schema included will help your content to rank better. This, in turn, will allow your content to be more likely detected by Google for the featured snippet section.

How do featured snippets impact SEO?

Featured Snippets are an opening to get more clicks from Google's organic search results without needing higher Google rankings. Data from Search Engine Land shows that a Featured Snippet gets approximately 8% of all clicks from the organic search results.
